This is classic cool climate Yarra Valley barrel fermented chardonnay at it ‘s best! Handpicked fruit (majority from the estate ‘s old chardonnay block and 4 other sites). whole bunch pressed. barrel fermented. lees contact and matured for 1 year in 20% new french oak. No malolactic fermentation in this wine which (means plenty of malic acid) revealing its pristine citrus and mineral acidity. Intense mixture of white peach/pear fruit coupled with a creamy barrel ferment nuttiness. Fresh and inviting. The palate displays a citrus backbone provides support for the fresh stone fruits. The underlying vanillin oak adds complexity bringing a pure centre and finishing with a fine line.
94 points James Halliday Bright straw green. very good chardonnay was made in the Yarra Valley in ’09. because either side of the bushfire auto da fe. the weather was perfect. and smoke taint doesn ‘t affect chardonnay. The wine has an admirable restraint. white peach and grapefruit to the fore. sustained by natural acidity and supported by French oak. Drink to 2019.
