Over 120 years of admiration of the region has led the current generation of Ott’s to dedicate their lives to producing distinctive yet subtle wines that represent Provence.
Domaines Ott is run by 4th generation Jean-François Ott, with partner and owner, Louis Roederer Family Group. Working towards Ecocert-certified organic conversion since 2019, the first AB-certified vintage will be the 2022. Clos Mireille, (since 1936), is close to the Mediterranean in La Londe-les-Maures, Côtes de Provence, where the unique microclimate and sea-spray create a rosé of subtle power from Grenache with Syrah and Cinsault. Chateau Romassan, (since 1956), in Castellet, Bandol, gives rise to a structured rosé based on mourvèdre. By.Ott grapes are sourced from three long-term partner winegrowers, blended with 20-30% Domaine grown fruit.
About this wine from the winemakers: “An enveloping, fresh and very harmonious rosé wine”. Estelle Mazoire, cellar master at Château Romassan. AOC Bandol.
“This sun-kissed terroir looks out over the sea and is composed of marl and limestone soils that are particularly suited to the Mourvedre grape. Mourvèdre, the majority grape variety in this blend, comes into its own here like no place else, providing solidity, structure and excellent cellar-ageing potential. It is complemented by the deep vinosity of Grenache and the softness of Cinsault. These three grape varieties, grown on the hillsides and in the valley, produce a complex, beautifully textured rosé.
“The wine has a pale peach color with a soft rose gold shimmer. The nose is seductive with a rich array of aromas. The palate is buoyed by aromas of red fruits-strawberries and raspberries. The wine is delicious, right up to the finely balance finish.
“The 90 hectares of vineyards are split between the AOC’s eight communes and planted on marl and limestone soils that are particularly well suited to Mourvèdre. They are composed of two main climates. The grapes grown in the valley offer fresh, crunchy juice whereas those grown at higher altitudes on the terraced hillsides produce wines with more body and structure.
About the 2024 “Spring was mild and rainy but was not excessively wet followed by a hot dry summer with cool nights. Gradual and even ripening, resulted in healthy, well-balanced grapes with aromatic finesse and good acidity, providing us with greater elegance and ageing potential in our wines.
“60% Mourvèdre, 20% Cinsault, 20% Grenache. Peach-colored hue with a dash of copper. An enveloping nose, blending citrus and passion fruit with beautiful aromatic intensity. Full and round palate, carried by the freshness of mandarin and enhanced by a subtle touch of Sichuan red pepper. Rich and persistent finish, highlighted by notes of pomelo pith.”
