Description

Domaine Chanson is one of the great historic producers in Burgundy.  Founded in 1750, they are one of only six producers in the region still remaining from the 18th century and earlier.

Most critical to today, Chanson was purchased by Family Champagne Group Societé Jacques Bollinger in 1999 and has been dramatically restored to once again become one of Burgundy’s top estates.

Chanson has extensive holdings of over 111 acres of exclusively Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in the heart of Burgundy. This includes 62 acres of Premier Cru vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, making them one of the leading Premier Cru specialists in the appellation. They produce approximately 17,000 cases of domaine wine per year from their vineyards by farming organically, and harvesting all grapes and vinifying all wines, even for contracted vineyards.

The Chanson estate produces over half of its own fruit requirements and all the Estate owned vineyards are farmed organically. The other grapes are sourced from growers selected according to their commitment to quality in alignment with Chanson’s quality Charter. Individual plot selection produces fruit which also remains separate through the fermentation and ageing processes. The soil is ploughed to encourage the vines to extend their roots more deeply and therefore better express the typicity of the Terroir. All the grapes are hand-picked at optimum maturity.

This beautiful house from Beaune … has now fully found its mark and style.  It competes with the best thanks to their wines with clear and pure style, both white and red.  A state of the art winery and the relevant advice of Jean-Pierre Confuron, in the vineyards as well as in the winery, explain the very clear expression across the wide range of Domaine wines.”  REVUE DU VIN de FRANCE -Guide Edition 2012 (France’s leading wine magazine)

About this wine and vintage from the winery: “Plot selection on the ideally exposed hillsides south of the village of Chablis, planted on the unique Kimmeridgian soil, composed of limestone and fossils. A must-have on the finest restaurant wine lists and at wine merchants around the world.

“After a winter characterized by marked variations in temperature between January and February, spring started with mild temperatures. A sequence of cold weather in April was followed by warm temperatures in May but the lack of water was very noticeable and could not be compensated by the rainy storms of June. Summer was marked by several and long heat waves and the storms of the end of August were most welcome. The harvest at Chanson started on August 30 with a team of 100 persons and ended on September 13. 2022 vintage was quite generous both in volume and quality and the white wines are well-balanced, precise and refreshing.

Careful selection of grapes, with partial destemming. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at low temperature (16°) for 15-20 days. Aged in stainless steel vats and French oak barrels (2 to 6 years old, 228L) with classic Burgundian toasting, bringing roundness and delicacy.

“Pale gold colour. Delicate floral fragrances mixed with citrus fruit on a subtle minerality. Tight and tense with a good structure. Refreshing mineral finish.”

91 points, Wine Enthusiast The nose is fresh and delicate, revealing white peach, jasmine tea, and mushroom aromas. The palate is more expressive, with crisp red apple, Bosc pear, and subtle earthiness, finishing with a lingering salty note. Pair this wine with delicate cheeses—like a pinch of salt that enhances flavors without stealing the spotlight. A subtle, versatile choice to keep on hand when entertaining friends.”
