Description
Valmiñor is a benchmark producer that is found further south on the Portuguese border of the river Miño. Its vineyards face south-west and east on a mixture of alluvial and granite soils.
The warming effects of the river, southern exposure and heavier soils offer fuller, riper, more tropical wines. This is what we call the ‘Yang’ of Albarino. It is ripe & fleshy.
The Albariños of O Rosal still exhibit high acidity and light salinic notes, however rather than apple-jasmine the palate exhibits stone fruit, mandarin, and a more glyceric mouthfeel. Yum. Viva Espana!
2022 is here and looks smart! Grape prices have increased dramatically due it seems to consolidation of vineyard holding by coops so unfortunately there has been a dramatic increase in price.
Smells of lime and prickly pear with custard apple richness and green apple tang. There is a pleasing smell of the dirt underneath, so it’s not just a steel tank fruit thing. Nicely controlled nutty phenolics and subtle lees richness help the fruit to achieve volume in the savoury mid-palate. The wine is well-textured through the front 2/3 then glides out onto a rail of appley-steely acid, affecting great balance between flesh and nerve.

91 points, James Suckling, “Attractive aromas of white peaches, lemons, green pears and white flowers with salty undertones. Medium-bodied with bright acidity and a refreshing, saline yet creamy palate. Vegan. Drink now.”
