Description
Fred Loimer’s wines are among the very best examples of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling in Austria. He began practicing biodynamics in 2006 and is a founding member of Respekt, a certifying body for biodynamic viticulture. His estate near the village of Langenlois in the Kamptal region includes several prestigious single-vineyards and his winery is a model of modern efficiency.
Lois (rhyming with “choice”) is named after the village of Langenlois and was one of the first high-quality examples of Grüner Veltliner to be exported to international markets in 1999. Grüner Veltliner is the signature grape of Austria and produces a dry white wine with savoury aromas, spicy flavours, and bright acidity.
Grüner Veltliner’s bright acidity and savoury character make it an ideal partner to mildly spiced Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese dishes. Fish and shellfish are accented by Grüner Veltliner’s citrus and mineral profile while its acidity cuts the richness of pork or ham. It can also work a treat with foods that are difficult to match such as bitter greens and asparagus
Lois Grüner Veltliner is certified as “Made with Organic Grapes.” Hand-harvested, mainly whole-cluster pressing with spontaneous fermentation occurring in stainless steel tanks. Maturation in stainless steel tanks on full lees for 3-4 months, followed by fine lees for one month.
Brilliant yellow-green hue. Scents of dried pineapple with hints of ground pepper and cardamom. A powerful, full-bodied wine with complex flavours on the palate, including orange, raspberry, persimmon and lardo with rosemary. A dense creamy tone and delicate extract sweetness. The piquant acidity gives dynamic tension.
Review for 2020 ..91 points, Wine Spectator “A whiff of elderflower gives way to grapefruit, pear and almond flavors in this sleek, light-bodied white, which tightens up, turning more compact on the finish, yet remains fresh. Drink now. “
