The Armani family have been cultivating vines since 1607 in the beautiful mountainous country of Trentino (north of Verona), Alto Adige and Friuli. Travelling up the Adige River, into the Region of Trentino you will reach the Lagarina Valley, better known as Vallagarina. Between the towns of Ala and Avio, the grapevines thrive in the gorge between Monte Baldo and the Lessinia Mountains: the soil is fertile, although contrasted by the formidable mountains and the rushing Adige River, an atmosphere which is both dramatic and gentle at the same time. The fields, which are cultivated with grapevines, still using the ancient Pergola Trentina method, slope down from the hills towards the river, and the soil composition varies from morenic to alluvial.

The area boasts a microclimate, on the one hand influenced by the warmth of nearby Lake Garda, and on the other hand characterised by intense temperature fluctuations: within this context of unique factors  is the perfect exposure to the sun, and consequently the secret of Vallagarina winegrowing.

One of the great passions of the family is to explore local varieties which have disappeared, with plantings at their ‘conservatory’ vineyard project. They have had success with the rediscovery of the ancient local variety Foja Tonda nad Nera dei Baisi.

This handcrafted pinot grigio carries the ‘io Domenico Armani’ label, showing a copy of the original signature for the land holdings in 1607.  All vineyards are tended to by hand, from pruning to harvesting. Each of the three regions has a state of the art winery, and care is taken to work as organically as possible..

Fruit with beautiful aroma, grown on Morainic soils, with gentle pressing, cool ferment with indigenous yeasts and time on lees in tank with partial malolactic fermentation.  Wonderful floral and aromatic bouquet of white flowers, ripe pear and apple.  In the mouth it has lovely savoury fruit complexity and structure with pristine purity of citrus and lip smacking lime and mineral freshness.   A joy to drink.  Perfect food wine too.
