Description
John and Eithne Lagan planted their first vines in 1977 in what is now considered one of the oldest vineyards in Margaret River. Xanadu now has a long history of producing wines of distinction, accolades and a reputation as one of the finest wineries in the region.
This barrel fermented Chardonnay with its intense and yet delicate fruit characters, pristine acid structure of Margaret River (from Stevens Road & Lagan vineyard) are highlighted by avoiding malolactic fermentation. This wine is powerful and tight at the moment on opening (will hit its straps in 6 months) but opens out beautifully with some air.
95 points James Halliday ‘The grapes come from the Stevens Road and Logan Estate vineyards; hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed and wild yeast-fermented in French oak, followed by 9 months maturation with lees stirring throughout, but no mlf. It is a wine of exceptional concentration, focus and drive, the flavours rushing along the palate willy nilly, not quite leaving you gasping for breath; they are between white peach and grapefruit, marginally skewed to the latter, probably doing no more than reflecting the crisp natural acidity of the wine.’
