Winemaker Dominic Maxwell and viticulturist, Nick Gill are rising stars of the industry and this stunning Waipara Valley estate on the Omihi slopes with its clay-limestone soils and free draining gravels is perfect for grape growing. Winemaker Dom Maxwell was awarded NZ Winemaker of the Year 2018, Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine and the winery was awarded “Vineyard of the Year” at 2016 NZ Organic Wine award.
From the winemaker: “We hand pick our Chardonnay blocks separately before whole bunch pressing. We foot crush our B95 clone from clay soils to obtain phenolic presence. All lots were transferred into French Oak barriques (25% new) where they went through natural fermentation over several months and natural malo-lactic fermentation in mid Summer. The wine ages in barrel without racking for 11 months in oak before estate bottling without fining.
Initially toasty with wild herb, cream and buttery undertones. Ripe stonefruit flavours adds to the complexity. Full-bodied with a chalky phenolic finish. Finer citrus notes provide energy and flow to the lingering palate.” 14.5 % alc

Stylish, well-made organic chardonnay with hazelnut, sizzled butter, white peach, ginger and spicy oak flavours. A seamless wine with a lengthy finish displaying an array of subtle and appealing flavours. Delicious now but no rush.

This richly fragrant, weighty wine was barrel-fermented with indigenous yeasts. Bright yellow/green, it is powerful, deep and complex, with lush, vibrant, peachy, gently toasty flavours, balanced acidity, and a long, very harmonious finish. Best drinking 2021+
