Description
“Canberra is an exciting region at the moment, and there are many new players hitting unthinkable heights of quality. Winemaker Nick Spencer has demonstrated – across a whole range of styles and prices – that Eden Road Wines is a force to be reckoned with.” Nick Stock, The Age/SMH Good Wine Guide.
The Eden Road wines all derive primarily from the ACT/NSW ‘High Country’ regions of Canberra District, Hilltops, Gundagai and Tumbarumba. Eden Road is supposed to suggest an ideal (as in the Garden of Eden), not a place.
The Tumbarumba Chardonnay is a blended selection of the best barrels from both the Courabyra and Maragle Vineyards. This Chardonnay is our flagship Chardonnay capturing the best of both vineyards in a blend that expresses everything that is great about Tumbarumba. Only 400 cases made. The winemaking is kept very simple in order to express the high country and the rocky soil origins of the fruit. The fruit was handpicked, whole bunch pressed and transferred to French oak barriques for fermentation with indigenous yeast. The wine was then matured on gross lees in oak for 12 months and stirred on a weekly basis. No additives went into to the wine, apart from a small amount of sulphur dioxide prior to bottling. 94 points James Halliday “Bright pale gold; a fragrant and complex array of aromas, with citrus blossom, nectarine and grilled hazelnut on the bouquet; the palate is taut and linear, with an underlying wet slate minerality, but enough flesh to provide a long, layered and complex conclusion.” 94 points Gary Walsh The Wine Front “…This uses 15% new oak, and is beautifully made. White peach, a little more richness than The Long Road, but still tight and racy. Almond meal, silky and milky, with fine acidity and wonderful length. Gee that’s a good wine. Delivers flavour at low alcohol with considerable finesse.”
