Cape Jaffa winery and vineyard sits atop cave pocketed limestone on the very edge of the South Australian coastline – formed from the remains of coral and long forgotten ocean creatures as the sea made it’s retreat as recently as two million years ago. A unique and isolated post, approximately 30kms North of Robe, and 300km from Adelaide, Cape Jaffa wines are made with heart, earth and salt air.

To winemakers Derek and Anna Hooper choosing Cape Jaffa just felt right. Red loamy soil, free-draining Limestone, cool Summers and some great local surf breaks tipped the scales as they pioneered the Mount Benson wine region. Their commitment to sustainable agricultural practices through organics and biodynamics (their vineyards are Certified Biodynamic) plus their love of the sea and sense of place is reflected in the wines they make.

From the winemaker:  “Chardonnay doesn’t need to be controversial. This style suits a range of Chardonnay, and non-Chardonnay, drinkers alike. It has had partial barrel fermentation producing a fruit, oak, and acid balance. Time on lees has given a soft and generous texture to the palate. Made in a style that not only compliments local seafood but is also suited to a lazy summer evening on Long Beach, Robe. Delicate and refined – think peaches and nectarine with a citrus lift.  The gentle oaking and time on lees will see this wine develop well in the bottle over the next 5 years, but we doubt you’ll be able to keep it that long!”
