Description
Established in 1998, Bellvale Wine is a family-owned business run by winemaker, viticulturalist (and former pilot) John Ellis. Dry grown low yielding vineyard situated in the lush Tarwin River valley of South Gippsland, one of Australia’s best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producing regions. Many International awards and accolades including the coveted James Halliday Wine Companion 5 Star Winery Rating. John’s fanatical hands-on, attention to detail approach to winemaking salutes his obsession with traditional methods used by premium winemakers in Burgundy, where he honed his craft over many years.
From the winery: The growing season was rather cool with some rain. Harvest was at the end of March, and the wine is crisp and fresh with layers of complexity showing notes of white peach and nectarine as a result. One is reminded once again why Chardonnay from a site with moderate climate can express such exquisite subtleties of flavour and texture.
93 points James Halliday – “Smoky, bacony oak adds a clear edge to strong, characterful fruit. If an elegant wine can also be a force to be reckoned with, then this is it.”
