Description
Barone Ricasoli is one of Chianti ™s most important producers certainly the most important historically. with a remarkable story that goes back well beyond the 12th century. The most historic of wine castles “ Castello di Brolio and its remarkable 250 hectare Chianti Classico vineyard has been the home to the Ricasoli family since 1141. A major revamp and modernisation of the vineyard and winery was undertaken in 1993 … the wines are not only considered amongst the finest in Tuscany but deliver extraordinary value.
Rocca Guicciarda is one of Barone Ricasoli ‘s most storied vineyards. What we love about this wine is that it is so classic (fresh. sappy. graphitey) yet contemporary in the best sense (clean. pure. textured)… It is tight on opening tasted May 2014 but day 2 it brought the house down ! So this wine needs time in cellar or alternatively a good decant. From a terrific vintage in Tuscany. the 2010 Rocca Guicciarda was matured for 15 months in a mixture of French barriques and Slovenian tonneaux. It ‘s a first rate example. silky and sweet with subtle oak and notes of dried tea. raspberry and cherry pit outlined by fine. polished tannins. The finish goes long on lingering flavours of mineral and tobacco. Francesco Ricasoli is obsessed with producing an outstanding Riserva style under this label. This wine overdelivers and we love the price ! RRP $58
