Am a fan of the wines of thsi leading Kiwi pinot noir producer in Bannockburn. Central Otago. Central Otago produces extraordinary pinot noir that is incredibly consistent .. all the rain falls in Milford on the western side of the alps so Bannockburn and Gibbston Valley in Central Otago to the east of the alps have the good fortune to be in a rain shadow. They are definitely giving Burgundy a run for their money!
Rich ripe plum. dark cherry/boysenberry fruits are nicely dusted by fine sweet spices and a floral element pushing up through the richness. There is an exotic note edging towards chocolate and fruit cake. but it is fresh and well focused. Medium bodied with weight. concentration and structure for price. Medium with good texture full of ripe dark cherry and darker berry fruits that are rich but not sweet. in part thanks to the abundance of fine drying tannins. Very serious for the price point although it should be softening over the next two years to provide immense pleasure.
