‘”Pete and his partner Magali Gely operate what I think is the best new wave of small scale Barossa wine companies to emerge at the beginning of the 21st century. These weren’t big, blockbuster, showy wines designed to impress. They were wines that managed to take the best of the Barossa’s sometimes forgotten varietal traditions and fuse them onto a very European flavour sensibility. ” Max Allen. The future makers.
“It seems that Spinifex wines can do no wrong.” Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front.
From the winery: Sourced from old Barossa Valley dry grown Grenache, Mataro and Cinsault vineyards ranging from 15 to 120 years old (average 65 years). Grapes are hand-picked and crushed bunches were macerated for between 6 and 24 hrs prior to pressing and the lightly clarified juice fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel and old French oak Demi muids. All parcels were matured on lees for 4 months prior to blending and bottling and without filtration.
The resulting wine offers the kind of vibrant perfume, texture and crunchy line that were once the exclusive domaine of provençal rosé. Pulpy fruit, crunchy raciness and a thirst-slaking finish. If anyone you know doesn’t think Australia is capable of producing great rosé-hand them a glass of this, pronto.
