Flametree Wines has had a meteoric to become one of the star wineries of the Margaret River wine region. Under the skilled winemaking of Cliff Royle (ex-Voyager Estate) the quality of wines are impressive across the board.
James Halliday … “Flametree, owned by the Towner family (John, Liz, Rob and Annie), has had extraordinary success since its first vintage in 2007. The usual practice of planting a vineyard and then finding someone to make the wine was turned on its head: a state-of-the-art winery was built, and grape purchase agreements signed with growers in the region. Show success was topped by the winning of the Jimmy Watson Trophy with its 2007 Cabernet Merlot. If all this were not enough, Flametree secured the services of winemaker Cliff Royle.”
From the winemaker: “Margaret River is arguably Australia’s premier Cabernet Sauvignon grape growing region and our Embers Cabernet Sauvignon has been crafted in a manner that captures the best of the variety and its distinctive regional characters. Soft extraction techniques and cooler than normal ferment temperatures have resulted in a generously-fruited, fleshy wine with lovely lifted Cabernet Sauvignon aromatics. All batches were fermented separately before being transferred into older French oak barrels to undergo maturation for 12 months. After maturation in barrel the wine was blended, fined, filtered and then bottled.
The 2019 Embers Cabernet has lifted aromas of violets, ripe black fruits with chocolate and cedar notes. This year’s wine is a little more structured and finer than the more juicy 2016 vintage. Flavours of Satsuma plum, blackberry and chocolate underpin this years wine. Unashamedly medium bodied with soft fruit and a fine tannin structure.” 14% alc.
Newly arrived, new label and very limited …. Reviews for 2018 “Fermented in separate lots, designed for soft extraction and for subsequent 12 months maturation in French oak, the best barrels selected for this wine. That is jaw-dropping. It’s a crowd pleaser big time. James Halliday’s 2021 Australian Wine Companion.
“This is a very fresh, vibrant and bright cabernet that offers a mix of redcurrant and cassis aromas and flavors with quite fresh, lithe style on the palate.” James Suckling.com, April 2020
