Description
This prestigious Loire sparkling house founded back in 1912 was acquired by Maison Bollinger in 1973. Quality production has gone from strength to strength under Bollinger and Michel Villedey (who ran the estate until 2008) and others. Over 60% of their production is devoted to their world class Crémants but their Sancerres are also highly regarded as benchmarks for the appellation.
100% estate grown handpicked fruit, this cuvee comprises 60% Chenin Blanc; 20% Chardonnay; 20% Cabernet Franc (which adds weight and body) from 6 prime Loire terroirs (predominantly chalky soils) including Côtes de Saumur, Coteaux de St Léger, Puy Notre Dame, Bay Layon . The Cremant de Loire Appellation is among the most demanding as far as quality control goes for sparkling wine appellations in France. Method Traditionelle secondary fermentation in bottle followed by 24 months on lees stored in the extensive underground ‘caves’ at cellar in Saumur near banks of the Loire.
Incredibly polished and pure, this fine zesty bubbly brims with citrus, green apple finesse and more-ish savoury brioche characters. Oui oui Vive La France! Sante!!
“…Fragrant, juicy and ripe – apple, redcurrant, rose petals and a toasted character on the nose. Classic, savoury and with good smoky length.“ Jancis Robinson
“Langlois Chateau Cremant de Loire Brut NV Sparkling wine has a vibrant and racy fruit, bready yeast flavours and zesty appley freshness is accompanied by the waxed lemony flavours of a Chenin Blanc. Fresh orchard-fruit aromas burst from the glass of this easy-drinking Chenin-Blanc, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay blend. In the mouth is honeyed and balanced with an Old World feel. The Cremant de Loire Appellation is among the most demanding sparkling wine appellations in France. Under Bollinger, Langlois has further augmented the regulations to equal, and even exceed, those of Champagne.” Decanter Magazine
91 points, Decanter “A blend of 60% Chenin Blanc and equal amounts of Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc, with 10% reserve wine. Fresh and inviting nose, fine bubbles on the palate and tangy, almost sherbet apple flavors. Really enjoyable, with a citrus kick towards the finish. Well balanced with good acidity to keep it refreshing and nice depth. Pair with light summer snacks or fish. A crowd-pleaser.”
