Our sustainable farming practices are driven by the belief that the health of our vineyard soils, and thus vines, underpin wine quality. All grapes are hand pruned, shoot thinned and hand picked.” Winemaker Glen Hayley
“Since becoming chief winemaker at Port Phillip Estate a few years ago, Glen Hayley has taken the estate’s already good wines to new levels of quality and detail.” Max Allen
About this wine from the winemaker: “While yields were significantly lower than average, fruit quality was excellent with intense flavour concentration and refined acidity. The fruit was whole bunch pressed and fermentation commenced spontaneously with ambient yeasts in old French oak barriques and large-format foudre. Once dry, the wine was left on lees for several months prior to bottling. The wine was bottled without fining.
Opening with an attractive copper hue, the nose reveals vibrant red berry, strawberry and orange peel notes, together with a peppery savouriness. Showing purity and depth, the palate has juicy raspberry flavours and a delicate creamy texture balanced by fresh red currant acidity. The wine finishes dry and spicy.
93 points, Jane Faulkner for Halliday Wine Companion “A proper rosé, as in whole-bunch pressed, wild fermentation in used French barriques and oak foudres, fermented dry and left on lees for a couple of months to build texture and depth. Expect a light mix of strawberries, pomegranate, lemon peel and woodsy spices, nothing overt, just a neat balance of flavours and fresh acidity throughout. Lovely drink. “
93 points, Gary Walsh, The Wine Front “Made from Shiraz and Pinot Noir. Slightly smoky/flinty, fresh strawberry/raspberry, blood orange, a kiss of dried herb and spice. It’s gently creamy and soft, with a blood orange tang, a fine dusty texture and a pretty long and bright finish.”
