Description
Set in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, Tumbarumba is one of the coldest viticulture regions on mainland Australia. It’s not an easy place to grow grapes – Winter is bitterly cold; Spring can be punctuated by severe frosts and the terrain is frighteningly steep. But it is in this unique climate that we can create wines of purity, expression and elegance that speak of their origin.
There are few places in Australia cool enough to craft world class wines from early ripening varieties such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. That this can be achieved in Southern NSW is among the most exciting stories in Australian wine making – and it is what drew Jason & Alecia Brown to purchase the vineyard in 2011.
Under the Brown’s ownership the entire vineyard has been transformed, they have invested heavily; rehabilitating vines, overhauling viticulture practices, planting new varieties and experimenting with sustainable farming methods. But most importantly, rather than just grow grapes to sell to other wineries, all of the vineyard’s fruit (including what was once reserved for Penfolds Yattarna) is now made into wine under the Coppabella label.
This 100% pinot noir rose is fresh and clean with faint notes of strawberries, raspberries and spice. The palate is dry and savoury with summer berries and citrus combining to create a vibrant, bright, textural rosé that finishes clean and dry. 12.5% alc
93 points, Sam Kim, Wine Orbit “Fabulously fruited and instantly appealing.. raspberry, watermelon, peach and floral characters.. a juicy palate that’s vibrant and lingering. It’s bright, refreshing and highly enjoyable. At its best: now to 2021”
90 points, Stephen Read, Wine Matrix “..Attractively bright pale salmon in colour, with aromas of cherries and strawberries, earthy tones and fragrant notes.. clean crisp acid balances this fruit driven wine..”
92 points, James Halliday “Minimal skin contact, the free-run juice cool-fermented. There’s a bowl of fresh-cut strawberries and red cherries in the wine, giving it real substance and flavour, sustained by fresh acidity and very good length. Is destined to be enjoyed with food.”
