Description
Founded in 1879 Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine is run by fifth generation winemaker Christine Dubreuil. It is located on the hillside of the historic town of Pernand-Vergelesses in the Cotes de Beaunes. The Domaine owns 20 hectares of vines spread across some twenty appellations across the Cote de Beaune. Hand Picking with sorting as required, Pinot is completely destemmed then sees around five days of cold maceration before fermentation. New oak is used but is kept to about 35% for the Grand Crus. Since Christine has taken over quality has improved markedly. The 2012 harvest will be remembered for three things: the outstanding quality produced by the best growers, the tragically low yields and the marked increase in prices across the region.
This is a very smart offering reflecting an excellent growing season. It will reward cellaring at a minimum wait 5 years
Wine Advocate 88-90 Points “The 2012 Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru Les Vergelesses comes from three parcels of vine just above Ile de Vergelesses. It has a lively, pure red cherry and wild strawberry bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is smooth on the entry with tensile tannins, notes of blackberry and strawberry and just a slight tapering on the finish.”
Allen Meadows aka Burghound 89 Points “Here the nose is both riper and earthier though it retains the same lovely freshness on the mostly dark berry fruit scents. This is also quite fleshy and generous but with better depth to the medium-bodied flavors that offer good balance and fine length on the youthfully austere and moderately firm finale.” RRP $119
