Description
Pierluigi Talenti purchased the pian del Conte estate in the 1950s . As one of the most influential wine makers in Montalcino he was always a staunch traditionalist. During his time at the legendary Il Poggione estate he resisted the trend of rich, powerful wines and looked for elegance and finesse and continued this style at his own estate. Today his son Riccardo is in charge at the 40 hectare property of which approximately 20 hectares are under vine and looks after the estate with utmost respect for tradition while making subtle changes to express even further the subtleties of the 11 different plots. The vineyards are located at altitudes between 300 to 420 meters above sea level and the soil is sandy loam and galestro . The wines age in a mix of 500 litres and 25 hectoliter Slavonian Oak barrels.
92+ pts Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media: ” The 2018 Talenti Rosso di Montalcino is a pleasure to taste. It presents a vibrant expression of crushed black cherries and dark florals, offset by savory herbs giving way to classic leather and earth tones. The finish is long with just a bit of grip, strutting its ripe red berry fruit and spice, yet not in a powerful way, but instead refined and especially energetic.”
93 pts Ian D’Agata, Vinous Media (4/2020): “Very pale red. Clean and precise aromas and flavors of sour red berries, violet and minerals. Rich and suave for a 2018 Rosso di Montalcino, with fine tannins and balance on the long delicately herbal finish. This lovely wine is remarkably easy to drink.”
