Description
San Giusto A Rentannano are up there with Italy’s top growers – they are all about purity of sangiovese fruit, elegance (almost feminine for super Tuscan), beautiful aromatics, and superb freshness. They were certified organic in 2008 vintage.
Set in the far south of the Chianti Classico zone, San Giusto a Rentennano started out as a medieval Cistercian monastery and currently owns about 40 hectares of vineyards – a small landholding compared to some of big Tuscan names and a feature that means they produce small quantities of wine.
Accolades galore from the wine scribes like Parker, Tanzer, Wine Spectator etc… A couple of quotes …
“I can’t think of too many growers who would show the humility to say “I could have done better” when talking about one of his highly acclaimed wines from a few years ago. It is precisely that quiet drive to continue to improve which makes Luca Martini di Cigala and San Giusto a Rentennano one of Italy’s top producers.” — The Wine Advocate, June 2008.
“San Giusto a Rentennano is one of Italy’s leading estates. Brothers Luca and Francesco Martini di Cigala are quiet and unassuming. They prefer to let the wines speak for themselves, which they do with great eloquence…From top to bottom, these remain some of the most reasonably priced wines in the world considering the pure quality of what goes into the bottle.” Antonio Galloni
95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo, aged in old cask and tonneaux for 10-12 months. Generous red berry and cherry fruit with perfumed floral notes, freshness and elegance in this classy Chianti … reminiscent of Burgundy. 2017 was a warm growing season in Chianti ..
This is more intense and structured expression… Highly sought after .. it sells out before it lands at these shores! And we are lucky to have limited stock available!
91 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media … “The 2018 Chianti Classico is bright, floral and incredibly refined. In this vintage, the Chianti Classico is a bit more restrained than it can be. Bright red cherry, red plum, mint, cedar, tobacco, game licorice and rose petal all grace this very pretty, mid-weight Chianti Classico. I would cellar the 2018 for at least a few years, as it needs time to come together. Bright acids will help it age gracefully.” September 2020

93 points James Suckling
” The purity of fruit with cherries and raspberries, as well as mineral character, is so wonderful in this Chianti Classico. Medium body. Balanced and nicely fruity with fresh, firm tannins. All here. Drink or hold.” (7/2019)
91 points Monica Larner, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“The 2017 Chianti Classico (made with 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo) is a saturated and rich red wine with a terrific sense of life and vitality. The quality of fruit is polished, delineated and sharp. Red and purple berry aromas mingle with light toast, spice and crushed limestone. This wine boasts beautiful primary fruit and makes every effort to flaunt it. The tannins are present, you won’t forget them, but there is enough texture and succulence to wash over any leftover sharpness or astringency. Serve it with an appetizer of meatballs and rosemary focaccia. Some 41,500 bottles were made. 91+ ” (9/2019)
