“A maniacal attention to detail in both the vineyards and cellar sets Fontodi apart as one of Italy’s most inspired producers.” Antonio Galloni, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
Fontodi Estate is one of the most highly regarded Chianti classico producers and is located in Panzano in the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Owner Giovanni Manetti (whose family purchased the estate in 1968) has 70 hectares of biodynamic vines referred to as Conca-D’oro “golden shell” for its heat-trapping amphitheatre shape perfect for ripening grapes. 2008 was the first vintage to be certified organic although organic vineyard practices go back to 1990. Free draining soils called ‘galestro” (schist rock with marl and clay) suits sangiovese perfectly. Meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard and winery sets this estate apart!
This fine chianti classico is the estate’s main wine – 100% Sangiovese (up to 20% of other varieties is permitted in the blend however they are purists), wild yeasts, meticulous fruit selection followed by 18 months in old French oak.
Relish the beguiling delicacy and complexity of aroma (black raspberry, cherry, chargrilled meat, leather) despite the power and thrust of this medium to full bodied vino italiano. This fine vino rosso cries out for roast meat. Salute!
Fontodi Chianti Classico is always a joy but in 2015 it’s outstanding! Comprising multiple vineyard sites in most vintages, in 2015 this Chianti Classico includes grapes usually designated for Flaccianello, making it perform like a “baby Flaccianello.
“The 2012 Chianti Classico is round, sweet and super-expressive. Dark red cherry, spice and tobacco meld together as this silky open-knit Chianti Classico shows off its inviting personality. Succulent and racy to the core, the 2012 will drink well pretty much upon release. This is another fabulous showing from Fontodi.” 92 points – Antonio Galloni, vinousmedia
