Barone Ricasoli is one of Chianti’s most important producers – certainly the most important historically, with a remarkable story that goes back well beyond the 12th century. The most historic of wine castles – Castello di Brolio and its remarkable 250 hectare Chianti Classico vineyard – has been the home to the Ricasoli family since 1141. A major revamp and modernisation of the vineyard and winery was undertaken in 1993 … the wines are not only considered amongst the finest in Tuscany but deliver extraordinary value.
85% sangiovese (DOCG Chianti within Tuscany) from a favourable growing season in 2022 (albeit a warm season) has delivered the goods here.
This really demonstrates the pedigree of this producer with the quality of this fine entry-level Chianti brimming with red and black fruit, fresh cherries and plums with balsamic hints and dried herbs. Medium bodied, velvety tannins, good length and delicious balance. What more could you ask for with pizza, pasta or a mushroom risotto. This is a midweek superstar!
