Otto Dal Zotto in Victoria ‘s King Valley is Australia ‘s maestro of Italian varieties. Barbera is widely planted Italian red grape (from Piedmont) and only just plays second fiddle to Sangiovese which is Italy ‘s most widely planted red grape. Love this wine for it ‘s intensity! Ripe blood plums. spice. hint of savoury old leather and lick of raspberry freshness on the finish (Barbera like Sangiovese naturally retains a higher level of acidity than most red grapes). After the second glass with a bowl of pasta. all I hear and feel is Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma.
