Description

Founder and owner, Lindsay McCall, established the vineyard in 1985. He is lauded as one of the region’s handful of pioneers. He bought an old north-facing orchard and planted The Paringa vineyard. At an elevation of 140 meters it curls around the landscape like a vinous amphitheatre, sheltered from the harsh southwesterly winds. The deep, rich volcanic soils give power, flavour and structure to the wines. The vines are reaching their peak of maturity too, and this is a crucial factor in producing wine of the highest quality. In 2007, Paringa Estate was awarded the innaugural “Best Winery in Australia,” in  James Halliday’s Wine Companion’book – an astonishing achievement for someone with no formal training in viticulture or winemaking.

2018 was an excellent, consistent vintage with healthy yields. It produced good quality fruit, with fine natural acidity.
Around two thirds of this wine has been tank fermented at low temperatures to retain fruit aromatics and freshness, while the remainder has been wild yeast barrel fermented to give additional texture and barrel ferment complexity.

Review of 2018

91 points, 2020 Halliday Wine Companion  “The usual mix of poached pears, spiced with ginger, some creamed honey and freshly cut Granny Smith apples. A refreshing drink with a lick of sweetness and just enough texture too.”
