Description

Venerable vines, fastidious viticulture and cutting-edge winemaking kit. It’s a killer combination, and the reason why Yangarra is producing some of the best wines in the Vale right now.” – Max Allen, The Weekend Australian.

This cutting edge McLaren Vale producer is making delicious energetic estate grown wines from it’s biodynamic vineyards.  The Yangarra philosophy centres around producing wines solely from its single-vineyard estate and the property is devoted to the best grape varieties of the southern Rhone. Yangarra’s combination of rare geologies, moderate altitude, abundant sunshine and cool evening breezes make it perfect for growing varieties that thrive in these moderate maritime environments. Since 2000 Peter Fraser has been the winemaker and driving force behind Yangarra Estate Vineyard. Amongst many accolades In 2005 and 2006 (under Peter’s direction) Yangarra Estate wines won International Winery of the Year from Wine & Spirits and in 2016 Peter was named Winemaker of the Year by James Halliday as part of his 2016 Wine Companion Awards.   We have been bowled over by every wine in their line up … a rare occurrence in this business!

Winemaker notes about this wine … “Our young Grenache bush vines are dry grown, and pruned to very low bud numbers to ensure a modest yield. These two blocks are grown on Sandy Ironstone outcrops, and produce a slightly lighter and more fragrant version of our old vines. The vineyard is certified Biodynamic (certification # 11587) with Australian Certified Organic. The 2022 growing season followed very similar conditions to 2021, though slightly cooler. There were favourable winter rains and a mild flowering and fruit set period. The cool ripening period took place between late January through to harvest in March. Yields were well balanced, and we are pleased with the fruit ripeness, intensity, freshness, and natural acidity. A portion of Grenache destined for the Rosé was the first fruit picked for the season, beginning on the 2nd of March.”

“Hand-picked. Gently basket pressed using whole bunches, just as if making a white wine, for minimal colour extraction. A small percentage of Saignée (drained off juice) used in the blend to add some depth of flavour without overwhelming the finesse we are striving for. Cool Fermentation, followed by maturation in tank on lees, stirred for 4 months.

“We pick our bush vine Grenache early in the season capturing the pink lady apple crunchiness of the skins, leading to a very pale coloured, elegant and dry style of Rosé. Grenache displays delicate rose hip and strawberry aromas with a juicy crisp palate.”

This wine is superbly crafted dry rose  … brims with stone fruit, citrus and apple crunch, hint of rose water and is dangerously drinkable! 100% Grenache. 13% alc.

Review of 2021: 93+ points, Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front  “It’s just a lovely style of rose. Cranberry and redcurrant scents/flavours with inlays of spice, almost into mineral, almost into citrus. It’s fresh and zippy but there’s also a grip, a texture, a feel to it. It will unfurl further as the months pass. No hesitation.”
