The Timo Mayer winery surely sits on top of the most beautiful viewpoint in the entire Yarra Valley, between  Healesville and Woori Yallock. German born into a wine making family in Wuerttemberg, wine is in Timo’s blood, but he made his own way here in the Yarra valley. Working with many Iconic wineries in the past, Timo’s style of wine has been recognised as one the most interesting to emerge in Australia for the last decade or more. His use of whole bunch fermentation is legendary! While his reputation continues to grow, his vineyard sites do not, so year after year we are faced with the difficulty of providing wine to an ever growing audience as his wines are also in high demand in the US as well as Europe and Japan.

This wine is a 100% whole bunch fermented wine which is also semi carbonic before it goes through a short colour ferment. Due to this it reaches superb balance without harsh green tannins with immediate appeal due to the fruitiness and retains its structure due to tannins and savoury components.
Vivid and perfumed with crushed strawberries on the nose . Very ripe and tightly wound dark cherry fruit with great acidity on the mid palate. This is very complex and definitely a bit closed still, but the potential is simply fantastic. This weighty but graceful Pinot will need a bit of time.

The 2019 Vintage is superb …  a marginally drier year produced a lower crop, grapes with thick skins, less juice and firm tannins. The concentration of the wines is magnificent and the colour is a bit darker than usual.

Then those complexing dried herbs kick in for savoury elements, There’s a charcuterie note as well for more interest. Tannins are integrated and play a big part in the drive. Finishes on an open fan of rosemary and red cherry.”
