Andrew Marks is making some of the finest wines in the land from the Upper Yarra with his family’s iconic vineyard Gembrook Hill. Wanderer Wines is his side project that screams of precise and finely detailed execution made with a sensitivity, care and obsessiveness that have quickly amassed a cult-like following. Only small amounts of each wine are made every year striving to deliver individual wines of flavour, character and balance. These upper Yarra Valley sites offer fruit from low yielding single vineyards with minimal wine making techniques to preserve the vineyard’s natural goodness, finesse and more-ishness. Single vineyard wine from Yellingbo in the Upper Yarra. A blend of two plots of vines within the same vineyard. Abel Clone, reputed to come from Domain Romani Contee via New Zealand in a gumboot. On chocolaty red marl. MV6, the tried and true Yarra Valley Pinot Clone, on grey clay soils over a yellow pan. Both plots cane pruned and hand picked.
Entirely destemmed. Cold soak and fermentation in open fermenters. No yeast added. Hand plunged. Large format oak with 11 months on lees. No fining or filtration. Estate bottled.

Glossy textured, sweet-ish flavours, a lick of gritty tannin and an earthy, garrigue-laced finish. Has a succulence and length too. Sense of deliciousness writ large. Super lovely.”

Spicy, stemmy aromas up front, cranberry and sour cherry characters emerging as it sits in the glass. Glossy, almost smooth in texture on the palate with a touch of sweetness about the fruit, but fine, persistent tannin astringency is in control, providing the shape, balance and length. It’s a beguiling sort of wine.”
