When talking to winemakers in Margaret River they say the southern area of the region – Karridale is the best area in the region for Chardonnay…seems to be some truth in it after tasting Hamelin Bays’ 2006 Chardonnay….wine show results accord too! The other night I revisited the Hamelin Bay Five Ashes Reserve Chardonnay 2005 – what a cracker – not surprising James Halliday gave it 5 stars and 95 points in his 08 Wine Companion – “a lovley wine, creamy texture..then layers of stone fruit with balanced french oak.”
